Last year, a 31-year-old woman from Kidderminster was sentenced at Worcester Magistrates Court for 14 months after pleading guilty to three counts of insurance fraud.
As reported by the City of London Police, the defendant in that case contacted her insurers in October 2013 to make an £11k claim that two of her horse saddles had been stolen from her locker at a horse show. The insurers paid out £9,914 in respect of the claim, which was supported by photos, quotes and a crime reference number.
In November 2014, the defendant made another claim in excess of £10k against her Insurers claiming damage to a fridge freezer, television, washing machine, two iPads and two horse saddles whilst moving house.
Investigators were unhappy with the documents submitted as they were not on headed notepaper and contained several spelling and grammatical errors. No further evidence was submitted to support the claims despite multiple requests. Further enquires were undertaken which resulted in the case being referred to IFED and ultimately the successful prosecution.
