Martin Cornes is a recent arrival at Quadra. It’s not the first time he’s been part of the Quadra family, but now he’s heading up Quadrassist, which provides vetted and approved contractors for all types of building claims. He’s also at the forefront of our plans to improve our environmental strategies, designed to ensure we are offering the most sustainable working practices alongside our claims management processes.
Martin brings a wealth of proven experience, having previously worked at a property renovation building firm, and as a Loss Adjuster. His combination of practical experience and foresight is the perfect background for Quadrassist, and will provide real benefit for our customers and clients.
One of his first tasks was to spearhead our accreditation of ISO 14001, an internationally recognised standard that helps businesses to assess their environmental footprint, and take action to improve it. As a result of his work, Quadra is now taking a market leading approach to responsible sustainability, while still maintaining the levels of excellence for which we have become known.
One of Martin’s first initiatives dealt with waste disposals, and how Quadra could take a more strategic role in encouraging sustainable practices. The construction industry, and renovation work can generate large amounts of waste, and Quadra is keen to ensure their impact is minimised. “Plaster and gypsum have proved particularly problematic in the past, but we’ve now set up goals to improve how we deal with difficult disposals. Quadra is now using Environment Agency approved companies to handle the waste, and maximise the recycling opportunities. It’s an example of how we are looking to exceed our normal due diligence processes, and provide a standard national benchmark for our clients, contractors, and customers.”
Martin also recognised that Quadra could do more to prioritise the environmental impact from road journeys. The distance travelled to jobs was previously a lower priority, but now Quadra uses contractors who are based more locally to the job in hand. That means Quadra is able to service its clients more quickly and efficiently and spend longer on site.
In the future, Martin is keen to embrace new technologies and opportunities. For example, simple queries and the inspection of minor repairs could use video technology, while upgrades to fleet vehicles and a move to the use of more hybrid vehicles will make a real and meaningful difference.
